Black Friday isn’t just about snagging the best deals — it’s also the perfect time to rack up points and miles. With a little prep work, your shopping cart can pull double (or triple) duty. Here’s how to get ready:

Step 1: Know Your Portals

Before the frenzy starts, make sure you know where to click.

• Credit Card Portals: Shop Through Chase, Rakuten (earns Amex points if linked), Capital One Offers

• Airline Portals: United MileagePlus Shopping, American AAdvantage eShopping, Delta SkyMiles Shopping, Alaska Mileage Plan, British Airways eStore, etc.

Tip: Use a site like Savewise to compare payout rates across portals before you buy.

Step 2: Create (or Log Into) All Your Accounts Now

Don’t waste precious seconds on Black Friday creating profiles.

✅ Make sure you’re logged in and your accounts are connected.

✅ If using Rakuten, ensure your Amex Membership Rewards option is active.

✅ Update your browser extensions so portal tracking works smoothly.

✅ Make a practice purchase (no need to actually buy) to make sure everything is in sync and ready to go for Thanksgiving night.

📝 Step 3: Make Your Master Shopping List Early

This week is the time to plan — not just for gifts, but for everything you’ll need in the coming months.

• Replenish household staples (toiletries, pet supplies, printer ink, shoes).

• Stock up on subscription renewals or gift cards while multipliers are high.

• Upgrade big-ticket items (tech, travel gear, small appliances) you know you’ll need soon.

• Portal + Credit Card Offer: Check Amex Offers, Chase Offers, and Citi Merchant Offers — you can often combine a “Spend $100, get $20 back” or “+5x points” promo on top of portal earnings.

• Portal + Coupon Code or Store Loyalty program: Use only codes listed on the portal itself — outside codes can void tracking. Also, many stores (Nike, Sephora, Ulta) let you earn store points and portal rewards. Just make sure you read the terms and conditions.

Step 5: Timing Is Everything

• Portal payouts often spike temporarily around Thanksgiving and Cyber Monday — sometimes over 20x.

• Sign up for email alerts or follow your favorite portals on social media for flash boosts.

• Complete purchases in one browser session — don’t close the tab or comparison-shop mid-cart, as that can break tracking.

Step 6: Don’t Forget Gift Cards

Buying digital or physical gift cards through portals often earns points, and you can later use those gift cards for more portal-tracked purchases. (Just check the fine print — some retailers exclude them.)

Step 7: Plan Ahead for Redemptions

These miles and points can add up fast — a few big purchases could mean:

• A free flight

• An upgrade to business (or first!) class

• A luxury hotel stay
