January 2026 Newsletter

Ahoy JGOOT Cruisers!

Welcome to the January edition of the JGOOT Cruises Membership Newsletter! As always, we’re here to bring you top tips, exciting updates, and must-book deals to make your cruising experiences even better. Let's dive in!

CAPTAIN’S TIP: Plan With Strategy—Not Hype 🚢

January makes everyone want to book something exciting… but don’t let “limited-time offers” rush you. Most cruise pricing follows patterns, and with a little strategy, you can tell whether you’re seeing a real deal or just clever marketing.

Here’s how to book smarter:

Start With Your Goal—Not the Sale Page.

Decide what matters most: luxury, budget, specific ship, rare itinerary, fewer kids onboard, casino perks, or loyalty building. Once you know the goal, the decision gets clearer.

Check Historical Pricing Before You Commit.

You can quickly see if today’s price is truly good using:

  • CruiseWatch.com – shows price history & alerts

  • Google “Cruise price history + [ship + itinerary]” for blog archives & screenshots

  • Facebook cruise groups – lots of “I booked for X” receipts that reveal trends

If the current fare is in line with normal patterns, no rush. If it’s significantly lower than usual? That’s when to pounce.

Compare TOTAL Cost—Not Just The Headline.

Look at:

  • taxes & port fees

  • gratuities

  • drink & WiFi pricing

  • whether perks are truly “free” or built into the fare

Have a Plan… But Don’t Panic Book.

Good deals happen all year. The smartest cruisers aren’t the fastest bookers—they’re the most informed ones.

Plan thoughtfully now, and you’ll sail confidently later. 🌊

Bigger Ships Ahead: The Next Decade of Mega Newbuilds 🚢: Cruise lines are working to accomodate cruisers who prefer smaller newer ships, but the trends continue to show megaships are set to keep getting bigger, with multiple 200,000+ ton mega-ships debuting across nearly every major brand in the coming years. Norwegian, Carnival, and Disney each have record-breaking new flagships on the horizon, while Royal Caribbean and MSC will continue expanding their powerhouse Icon Class and World Class fleets. The trend is clear: more space, more innovation, and more onboard experiences than ever before.

Private & Exclusive Destinations: Your Own Slice of Paradise 🏝️: Cruise lines are doubling down on creating their own “perfect day” style destinations. Royal Caribbean Group is leading the charge, expanding a portfolio that already includes favorites like Perfect Day at CocoCay and adding new experiences across Europe, the Caribbean, South Pacific, and South America. Carnival Corporation is moving in the same direction, pouring major investment into developing and upgrading its own private destinations to deliver more curated beach days, better amenities, and smoother guest experiences. Expect more places you can only visit by cruise—and more reasons to love those port days.

More Time in Port: Deeper, More Immersive Cruising ⛵️: Cruise lines are putting a bigger emphasis on longer port days and overnight stays, giving travelers more time to truly experience each destination instead of rushing back to the ship. Norwegian Cruise Line is leaning into this with upcoming itineraries averaging nearly 10 hours in port, plus dozens of late departures and overnight stops. Luxury lines like Regent are going even further with itineraries that keep ships docked for multiple days at a time, while Princess, Azamara, Oceania, Atlas Ocean Voyages, and Windstar are all designing voyages that slow the pace and maximize exploration. More time ashore = richer travel experiences. This is great news for people who hesitate to cruise due to short port stops.

New Deployment Trends: More Places, More Seasons, More Options 🌍: Cruise lines are shaking up where and when they sail. One of the biggest shifts is the growing focus on off-season Mediterranean cruises, with luxury brands like Windstar, Oceania, Silversea, Azamara, and Regent joining mainstream lines such as MSC, Costa, and Celebrity in offering winter Med itineraries. Viking continues to lead the way with strong year-round European deployments, including Northern Europe. In the U.S., expect more variety close to home too, with Philadelphia returning as a cruise homeport and expanded operations in San Diego, Jacksonville, Norfolk, and Mobile—meaning more regional sailing options and easier departures for many cruisers.

Norwegian Brings Back Free at Sea Plus: Norwegian Cruise Line is reintroducing its Free at Sea Plus upgrade, giving guests access to even more included perks starting at $49.99 per person, per day beginning with 2026 sailings. The enhanced package adds unlimited Starbucks, streaming-level Wi-Fi, bottled water, energy drinks, fresh juices, and a wider range of premium drinks including top-shelf spirits, wines, and champagne. Guests also receive 50% off extra specialty dining charges and can now enjoy their beverage package at Great Stirrup Cay, Norwegian’s private island—important timing as standard drink packages will no longer be honored in port starting March 2026.

MSC Is Growing: MSC Cruises has locked in a massive expansion plan, now scheduled to add ten new ships over the next eight years thanks to new orders with Meyer Werft and six already on the books from Chantiers de l’Atlantique. By 2033, this growth is expected to increase MSC’s capacity by roughly 60%, adding more than 47,000 new berths and pushing the line’s average ship size close to 4,000 guests per vessel. The upcoming lineup includes multiple World Class mega-ships — starting with MSC World Asia (2026) and MSC World Atlantic (2027), followed by additional sister ships through 2032 — as well as a brand-new “New Frontier” class, slightly smaller but still carrying up to 5,400 guests. With this expansion, MSC is clearly trying to position itself as one of the industry’s most dominant players for the next decade.
